The Pumpkin Patch

Saturday we decided we needed to get some pumpkins to put on our porch. A couple years ago we went on this same weekend to a pumpkin patch and just had a blast because they had a free face painter, a corn maze, a hay-bale maze for children, a corn pit, and a huge pumpkin bouncy thingy. So, we got up on Saturday and headed over there again, in the hopes that they'd have the same face painter there again. I mean, she was awesome. The pictures of the girls are from that visit. Unfortunately, that same face painter wasn't there, and the one that was there was very second rate and charged for the painting. So, we didn't do any face painting this year, but we still had a ton of fun picking out our pumpkins and playing in the corn pit.

Kate 2006

Eliza 2006

I love Kate's face in this picture. She has a hard time knowing how it feels to smile; so, in most of her pictures she has a funny face.

They had some painted pumpkins that looked pretty cool, so I just had to take pictures of our favorite ones!
Jumping into the corn pit.

Eliza practicing her handstands.

Adam is doing his little jig in the corn pit.

One of the "good" pictures I got of Kate.

After Andrew jumped into the corn, he started posing for me.

An example of Kate "trying" to smile.

I loved that I could take pictures of our four children playing together with very few "intruders" in the background. This is one of my favorite things about having a large family ... all of our children have playmates when we go to fun family activities.

Okay, so Jon jumped in and started burying everyone. This is about as good as we got because ...

Andrew just couldn't wait, he was ready to break free!
But, we did get a picture of the three who were willing to withstand more corn getting into their pants while Jon posed behind them.

After we got home, we ate lunch, then Jon started helping the children carve their pumpkins while I made dinner (which you'll get to see tomorrow). Here's how Adam carved his pumpkin. He did a great job, eh?

Kate was doing a good job focusing on her pumpkin. I haven't taken any pictures of the finished products; I'm waiting until Halloween to take those so that you can see them lit!

Wow! Is that corn kernels? That's crazy fun! Andrew has some mad hops! I can't believe how high he's jumping. Is there something springy underneath! That looked very fun! Can't wait to see your pumpkin carving pictures!

I love the "kate trying to Smile" that's about what I get from my own lil girl. What a fun family outing, although the corn pit doesn't look all that enticing. But it sure looks like they had fun!

Ok so the corn soooooo fun! I remember when i was a kid and going to my aunt and uncles house. We would go up on the loft of their barn and jump down into the corn trucks. SOOO fun! That totally reminded me of that. And the Mummy things look so cute! Can't wait to do things like this with our kiddos! :) By the way have you been able to post on my blog yet? I think it's fixed. Let me know.

Blogiversary

Today is my blogiversary! One year ago today I switched my blog over to Blogger. To celebrate, I want to do a little drawing for all my friends and family! I haven't yet decided what the winner will get ... I think it depends on who the winner is (I don't want to send a crayon roll to someone without children, or an apron to my brother, etc.). Rest assured though, that the winner will get something homemade from me, just as a little thank you for being my friend! So, start commenting ... and I'll send the total number of comments I receive by next Wednesday at 11:59 CST through random.org, then announce the winner next Thursday.

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

Finished Project Friday: Maryanne's Blessing Dress

(I know it's not really Friday, but I just finished this today and couldn't wait to show ya'll .) I finished Maryanne's blessing dress early! Well, what you would call early for me. When I made Andrew's blessing romper I was pounding in the snaps around the legs and on the back around 9:00 the Saturday night before he was blessed. So, to have Maryanne's dress done a week before her blessing is really good for me. This pattern was a challenge for me because the directions weren't very explicit, but after I did what I was supposed to they totally made sense. And, I forgot how to make button holes, so that was an adventure. This was the first time I've ever used lace on a project, and I'm really pleased with the outcome. You can't see it, but the slip has lace along the bottom edge, and I was supposed to put lace on the collar but opted it out and like it much better that way. I also made a little jacket or " saque " for her out of fla...
