Finished Project Friday: Kate's Scriptures

Kate will be turning eight in just under two weeks. She will also be baptized a member of our church (on her birthday!). Since she will be become a member, we feel that she needs to have her own set of scriptures. I've looked around and couldn't find a scripture case that I really liked, so decided to make one. It was a challenge to get the cover just right and snug on the scriptures, but I really like the outcome ... totally worth the time and seam unpicking.

Paint -- Take Two

Yesterday as I was making dinner, Maryanne decided to make her own fun. She grabbed a bottle of paint out of our Sterilite box that houses all the school supplies, and started to empty it into the lid of the box. Yes, you can give me the bad mom award for not putting it up high; but, I truly did not know she could open the box when the lid was on it. The box has since been moved out of reach. The best part was that this was the second time she'd gotten into the paint. The first time, she just squirted a little bit onto a piece of cardboard. I promptly put the paint in the box, and put the lid on it. Then, I heard Andrew say, "Aww, Maryanne!" I ran to the entrance of the kitchen to see what the problem was. Once I saw what she'd done, I stood there transfixed, swinging my head between my pot of chicken boiling on the stove which was about to overflow because I forgot to turn down the heat, and Maryanne who was rubbing her hands all over in the paint. I decided to save ...

Finished Project Friday: MK's Bag & Wallet

I needed a break from sewing Kate's quilt top, so I made this bag and wallet for my niece for her ninth birthday. What I love most is that I used all materials I had on hand (you know it's time to clean out your notion drawer when you find an unused zipper there). This is the same buttercup bag pattern that I used for "my girls" in MN, and the wallet pattern I modified from this one . The best part was watching my niece open all her presents ... I'm so glad I made the wallet ... after all the cards she got, she needed it! In one card, her aunt had given her money that was for their trip to the mall. How more perfect could it have been ... it was like we had all called each other up and planned it. Anyway she seemed to like it, and now my girls are begging for their own bag and wallet combo. Maybe that's what they'll get for Christmas.
