Here's my new weekly entry! I have a huge list of projects I want to get done before Christmas, which happens every year; and, like every year, I usually wait until December 15 to get started on them, so they never get finished. So, I decided that I would post one project per week ... and it has to be a finished project ... just to keep me motivated and working!
Here's project #1: Andrew's apron. While I was in Utah in August I went to a quilt store in Provo with my grandmother and mom and saw an adorable child's apron hanging on the wall. As I looked at the apron, I thought it would be cute to make my daughters aprons for Christmas. Alas the store didn't have the pattern in stock, but my mom found it at another quilt store and got it for me.
We use aprons all the time. I have to wear an apron most of the time to keep me focused on my housework, otherwise I get distracted. And, my children love to help me bake, especially bread and cookies. I have Eliza wear an apron when she helps me cook something that may splatter, like sausage. Plus, I like to have my children wear aprons whenever we eat something like tomato soup because for some reason they usually spill it on their clothes; and, wearing an apron doesn't make them feel like they're babies wearing bibs.

Anyway, I took Andrew and Adam to the fabric store when my sister was here for a visit and let them pick out their fabric. They didn't really know what it was for. Until today, Andrew had totally forgotten about it. He's been on a big blue and orange kick (one that I love since I love that color combo), and when he saw this blue fabric with the flames and sports balls on it, he was instantly attached. Then, he saw the flame fabric and I couldn't convince him to get any other fabric ... it had to be this combo. (I think maybe one day he'll be a grilling expert or something.)
Okay, okay, enough rambling. I did have him try it on, but he already knew he would be getting an apron for Christmas. In all, this project took me about 2 1/2 hours start to finish (starting with cutting out the fabric, an occasional break to attend to the boys, and ironing it last). I can't wait to get started on Adam's, Eliza's, and Kate's.
