Grateful Days 2012, Day 2: Jon's Job

Today I am reminded of how great Jon's job is.  Yesterday, a friend was asking me about how we are adjusting to Jon's calling in the church.  I love that I was able to tell her that it hasn't been too much of an adjustment for us yet.  Granted, it's only been a couple of weeks, but I haven't felt any difference in our family life.  I'm sure this is due to two reasons:

1) This week was Halloween, so all meetings were pretty much cancelled due to the Trunk-or-treat on the 30th and Halloween on the 31st.  Plus, Jon has been sick this week, so he didn't have anything scheduled for Thursday.

2) He works from home.
*This, I'm sure, is the really reason I haven't felt too much of a difference.*

Jon's job is so flexible and great for our family life.  I love that he will come out of his office for just five minutes, or ten minutes, to get something to eat or just take a break.  It's ideal because we are able to see him during the day for these short periods of time and I don't feel so much like a single homeschooling mom somedays.  :-)  Not only that, but there are times when I can actually take a break myself and go bug him.  :-)  I love those times ... knowing that I am frustrated with all of the reminders to my children to do their schoolwork, and I can go upstairs and complain to him and feel all better instantly instead of having to wait until 5-6 p.m. when he would normally get home from work.  The advantages go on and on!  Some days he doesn't have meetings all day, so he actually gets to come downstairs and spend hours with us, or we can go do something together.  It really is fantastic.

So, today, I am grateful for Jon's job ... it pays the bills, feeds our mouth, and provides emotional security to our family.  :-)

Aw! I want Aaron to have a job like that. :) I love when Aaron is able to work from home too, and I know my boys love it as well! It is nice when they're around more often. . .even if they're not "involved" because of work. Just the mere presence seems to help. What a great post!

(I still am convinced that you're doing so well with Jon's new calling because you guys were already so freaking AWESOME! All I know if you guys suddenly go missing, I'll know Heavenly Father scooped you up. :)

That is a terrific set-up you have there with Jon's job! :) It can make a HUGE difference to have hubby home at those times when you just...need him. For nearly all of my marriage, my hubby has had a funny work/school schedule and I complained much in my head. I didn't realize, until he got his new job, how convenient it was to have him home at 10 in the morning or 2 in the afternoon, while I was homeschooling. I am now used to his new schedule (it's a 7:15-to-5:30 job, because he takes the bus). So it's funny that he got the work schedule I always wanted (because it was "normal") and then it turned out to be a bit of a trial to get used to. :) If any of that made sense!

Pink Day

Today I was sifting through all the clothing and pulling out clothes that were stained and torn, as well as clothing the children had outgrown. There was a huge pile of clothing to sort through, and an ever growing pile of clothes to donate.  At one point, I pulled out a pink t-shirt and asked, "Whose is this?" Someone said it was Maryanne's, which couldn't have been true because it was a size 8. It wasn't her color anyway ... So I tossed it in the donate pile. (In hind sight, I now think my mom gave it to Maryanne for Christmas, and she said that she wasn't sure what size to get for Maryanne. Whoops on my part.) That's when Adam exclaimed that he wanted a pink shirt. Other children chimed in with, "It is his color." (Referring to his Dressing Your Truth type.) Adam bolted toward the donate pile and seized the shirt, promptly pulling it over his head and the collared shirt he had on. (Later he removed the collared shirt, after much cajoling from ...

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

My Two Teenagers

As personalities come, these two girls are like night and day. Both are silly at times, and both can be serious at times. And yet, that rarely happens at the same time! We have entered the world of teenagers, and it is quite the dramatic world! My oldest daughter is dealing with all the drama that teenagers bring: ostracism, judging, and feeling friendless. My younger teenager is just full of fun dramatics: silly faces and expressions, acting wonky and crazy, and saying that "everyone is my friend, even their mom and dad!" At any rate, I couldn't be more in love with these two. They fight over their littlest sister ("I get to hold her!"  "You've been hogging her all day!"), fight over who spends more time in the shower ("I do NOT spend an hour in the shower!"), and fight over who gets my MacBook ("She always gets to do her school on your computer!"  "But, all my stuff is on there!").  My world would be quite dramatical...
