My children have been on a slight piano lessons hiatus. Their piano teacher had a baby in September and needed some time off. (And, before you ask ... this is NOT an announcement: I am NOT their piano teacher.) They haven't been playing the piano as much recently, and we have had more free time in the afternoon because we don't need to rush to piano lessons. And, while it's been nice to take a break, I am so eager for my children to get into piano lessons again.
Eliza has grown a lot during this hiatus. She has challenged herself more, and she's gone ahead in some of her books; playing just because she wants to. I love it. She is finally to the stage in which she can read music fairly well, and she can sight read, and she can pretty play what she wants to. (Mind you, some of the time it doesn't come out right, or she takes it really slow. But, she is trying because she wants to try!)
It's been fun to see my children progress as they've played the piano these last two years. They've really come a long way. And, I am so grateful we have a piano in our home. I love playing when we sing for our family devotionals. I love playing when I just need to relieve some stress. I love hearing Jon play and figure out medleys of songs that you would never have thought to play together. I love hearing Maryanne plunk out a tune, or Adam try to sound out "Silent Night" months before Christmas. I love that Eliza has the confidence to play the hymns for her class in church even though there are girls who have played longer and can play more difficult songs. I love hearing Kate pull out one of the many Disney songbooks we have and play while she sings. And, I love hearing Andrew play his own creation over and over and over again.
Truly, I love our piano. I am so grateful for all that it has given us. It is a most wonderful blessing.
