Meet My New Friends

Thanks to our tax return, I've made some new friends recently.  The above picture is my new friend, Kaladin.  My dad introduced us when he and his wife, Laurie, came for a visit in March.  And, Kaladin has been such an enormous help to me!  It has been wonderful knowing that he's always there for me, and I don't necessarily have to worry about sharing him (although, I do sometimes, I'm not that selfish).  I think I love that no one in my family understands Kaladin as much as I do.  It makes it so convenient to get my work done.

This is my friend, Margaret.  But, I call her Meg.  She is a workhorse!  And yet, she can make some of the prettiest things.  I just love her to death!  Originally she was at a store when I first saw her, but the store wanted me to pay way more than I wanted, just to be her friend!  Then, I met a friend from Craig's List who introduced me to Meg for a fraction of what the store wanted.  I said, "Hello, Meg.  Nice to meet you.  Would you like to come home with me?"  She helped me make Eliza's costume, and the sandwich bags.  I have plenty of other projects I just know she will want to help me make ... I think maybe a new strap for Molly is in the works soon.

And, finally, meet my newest friend, Molly.  We have lots of years of fun ahead of us.  I can't wait to start inviting her to all the fun things the children do.  I just know she will do a great job helping me to document them.

There they are!  My newest friends.  Man, I love tax returns!

**The names of my new friends, explained:
I don't know if I've mentioned it before, but my siblings and I have a tradition of naming our new "toys."  I think my older brother and younger sister are more consistent with it than my older sister.  At least, I don't recall my older sister mentioning the names of any of her toys.  My brother and younger sister have named their cars, computers, phones, cameras, etc.  I think you get the idea.  Our children named our van "Big Red."  But, other than that, I have named all of my "toys" as well.  Remember I named my Bosch, Boschy.  So original, right?

Most often, I like to name my "toys" after characters from books that I really like.  For example, my phone's name is Peeta.  My piano's name is Edward.  Sometimes I try to name the "toy" based on the character of the book: Edward in Twilight plays the piano, hence the name of my piano.  My Bernina sewing machine is named after Margaret and goes by Meg, just like the character in Little Women.  She also is a workhorse like the character, who likes pretty things.  My MacBook's name is based on a character from Brandon Sanderson's new book The Way of Kings, named Kaladin.  There is no reasoning behind this other than it just "felt" right.  And, Molly got her name because I really like the character Molly from the book Wives and Daughters; I'd just been waiting to give the name to something.

Anyway, there's the story!

Tee-hee! I love that you name your "toys". I do the same thing. :) My names are not very original though. I love Kaladin! I'm very jealous!! I want one so bad. . .maybe next year.

Awesome!!!
I don't name anything but that's mostly cause I'm so very uncreative.
But I like that you use character names for things. I knew immediately where Edward came from when you said it was your piano's name. And I love that you named your sewing machine Meg!
That is SOO cute, I thought that we were strange cause we name things like our cars our plants and anything new that we get ;) it is just more fun that way!!

Pink Day

Today I was sifting through all the clothing and pulling out clothes that were stained and torn, as well as clothing the children had outgrown. There was a huge pile of clothing to sort through, and an ever growing pile of clothes to donate.  At one point, I pulled out a pink t-shirt and asked, "Whose is this?" Someone said it was Maryanne's, which couldn't have been true because it was a size 8. It wasn't her color anyway ... So I tossed it in the donate pile. (In hind sight, I now think my mom gave it to Maryanne for Christmas, and she said that she wasn't sure what size to get for Maryanne. Whoops on my part.) That's when Adam exclaimed that he wanted a pink shirt. Other children chimed in with, "It is his color." (Referring to his Dressing Your Truth type.) Adam bolted toward the donate pile and seized the shirt, promptly pulling it over his head and the collared shirt he had on. (Later he removed the collared shirt, after much cajoling from ...

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

My Two Teenagers

As personalities come, these two girls are like night and day. Both are silly at times, and both can be serious at times. And yet, that rarely happens at the same time! We have entered the world of teenagers, and it is quite the dramatic world! My oldest daughter is dealing with all the drama that teenagers bring: ostracism, judging, and feeling friendless. My younger teenager is just full of fun dramatics: silly faces and expressions, acting wonky and crazy, and saying that "everyone is my friend, even their mom and dad!" At any rate, I couldn't be more in love with these two. They fight over their littlest sister ("I get to hold her!"  "You've been hogging her all day!"), fight over who spends more time in the shower ("I do NOT spend an hour in the shower!"), and fight over who gets my MacBook ("She always gets to do her school on your computer!"  "But, all my stuff is on there!").  My world would be quite dramatical...
