Okay, so this last week wasn't so great. I've had a hard time letting go of bad habits and replacing them with better habits. One of those is consistency. It's so hard for me to be consistent at anything.
One of the things that I want to be more consistent at is a daily schedule. This has been plaguing me for years! I have made schedule after schedule, some very lenient with time, and others planned down to the half hours. And, I've had a hard time sticking to any of them.
There are a few things in my schedule that I am pretty consistent at ... one of them is lunch time. When 12 o'clock rolls around, it's pretty guaranteed that we are eating lunch, or I am making lunch. Not so with any of the other mealtimes/snack times. Or, even for family bedtime routine, morning routine, start of school time, etc.
For years I've had the same thought running through my head: that everything I do is in preparation for something else:
I make breakfast so everyone has the energy to get started on their schoolwork.
I teach my children how to read so they can read books about subjects they want to learn more about.
I help them learn to add, subtract, divide, multiply so they can figure out their taxes once they start working (among other uses for math).
I wash clothing and towels so they are clean and ready to be worn/used the next time they are needed.
I load dishes in the dishwasher for the same reason I do laundry.
I vacuum the floor so that the little things are picked up before a baby comes over to visit.
I put everything away in the school room so we can focus the next day on our studies.
I need to have dinner on the table by 5:00 p.m. so we can eat before we run off to our various activities, or so we can get in bed at a decent hour.
We need to do our bedtime routine at 7 (ha ha ha, I'd like to do it at 7 just once this week ... that would be a HUGE improvement) so I can get in bed by 9:30, to get enough rest to wake up by 5:30 to exercise.
See my point? Everything leads to something else. (Except surfing the internet .... really, what does that prepare me for???)
And, yet, I have the hardest time doing everything when I want it done. I seem to be always an hour or two behind in my day. So, I guess this week, I will really focus on being consistent at one more thing in my schedule. I'd like to do more than one, but I'm doomed to fail if I push it too much, right? Right.
So, until next week .... when I hopefully have something better to share about my week ... I will keep moving forward.
