When we got back from our Utah visit in August, we picked up our mail and Eliza and Kate were ecstatic to see that they had each received a special invitation to spend a day at the castle. The following Saturday, I took them to our stake center to spend a day with all of the girls in the stake ages 8- to 11-years-old.
It was such a great experience for my girls. At the church they were split into groups and they made wands (with blinking lights!), then took classes about modesty, personal hygiene, ettiquette, and combating the forces of the adversary. They also had their pictures taken ... a "before royalty" picture and an "after royalty" picture.
All of the mothers were invited to come watch their daughters be presented, and then we got to watch a slide show of all the photos. Some of the girls were so cute posing as princesses. And, I could not believe how much the girls acted like teenage girls: screaming and yelling when their photos showed up. I was chuckling most of the time.
The backdrops and decorations were phenomenal! Eliza made sure I got a picture of the castle they had on the stage. Apparently, it was made for a New Year's Eve Dance for the teenagers in the stake, and was just brought out again. The food was fantastic ... the brownies to die for! (I asked for the recipe and was told they couldn't give it out. Bummer!)
When we got home, and for several weeks after, I heard about how to make your hair shiny, or how to sun-bleach it; how to give yourself a manicure; and we got a mini-lesson one night at dinner about how to place our eating utensils when we are finished eating, and the proper way to utilize your napkin. I think the best part was that my girls have not had modesty issues anymore ... they would try to wear their cami's without anything over them ... or shorter skirts ... and now that is not an issue. Modest is truly the hottest. It was a great day for them, and I'm so impressed with everything they were taught and how it was all presented. Made my girls feel so much older than they are ... something they are always striving for.
