Last Thursday was Jon's birthday. Happy Birthday Jon!
I was thinking about all of his friends who wished him a happy birthday on Facebook. That is kind of a trend ... saying happy birthday to friends who you may or may not really care about, but feel obligated to say something just because they are on your friends list. For the record ... I care deeply about Jon, even though I didn't write anything about his birthday on his Facebook wall (or mine).
Instead, I told him several times throughout the day, "Happy Birthday!" Probably the best time for him though, was when I leaned over and whispered "Happy Birthday" in his ear while we were at a football game.
He was fortunate enough to know a guy, who knew a guy, who had tickets for the Cardinals vs. Broncos football game that night. And, my mom was so wonderful to come and stay with our children while we went to the game. We got tickets from someone who goes to our church, who was given a plethora of tickets at work. So, we carpooled to the game with two other couples, went out to eat before (and during kickoff) as a group date, then split up and went to our respective seats in the stadium.
We ended up sitting next to more people from church, and it was kind of funny to watch them either really get into the game or not. The lady sitting next to Jon was not ashamed to get out her book and read during the entire game (minus the times when she looked up after hearing the crowd cheer or groan). Her husband told her she could read her book at home, or she could come and sit next to him at the game and read her book. The tickets were free, so she thought, "What the heck?"
It was a fun night, and I hope Jon enjoyed his birthday. We both got to cross off another professional sport game off of our list. He needs to go to a pro basketball game (the one sport I have that he doesn't), and I need to go to a pro soccer game (the one sport he has that I don't). Unless you count softball, volleyball (are there pro games?), bowling, tennis, and any other sport there is. :)
