Soux Chef

I have my own little soux chef.  Yes, indeed.  Well, maybe she isn't a soux chef, but more like my substitute chef.  Frequently, Kate will get up and make breakfast for everyone.  Which has really helped me out recently.

You see, recently, I have been having a hard time with fatigue.  It's crazy.  I will go to bed at midnight, and sleep until 8 (so, yes, 8 hours of sleep), then I'll be yawning at 10:30 and ready for a nap at around 12:30 p.m.  I have hardly any energy during the day, but then at about 7 or 7:30 p.m. I will have a ton of energy and want to just get going and do everything I didn't want to do earlier.

So, because I am so tired all the time, Kate has been such a blessing.  She'll get up with the littles and play with them, or make them pancakes for breakfast.  It's so reassuring to know that she is up with everyone and taking care of them so I can get a little bit more sleep.  And, frequently, I can say, "Kate, you're in charge of lunch today," and she will gladly make lunch.  I'm so happy she loves to cook.

In case you are wondering, I did go in to see the doctor ... last year about February or March.  She took some blood and ran some tests.  They all came back normal.  So, at the referral of my aunt and uncle, I went into to see a naturopathic doctor.  It's a little bit of a drive, but probably worth it.  I went to see her in December, and she had be do a spit test to determine my cortisol levels.  She thought that my adrenal glands were getting fatigued and said that a "normal" doctor wouldn't even think to check my cortisol levels.  According to my test results, my cortisol levels are at the low end of normal in the morning, drop down by lunch time, then go up a little bit in the evening and plateau at midnight ... which leaves my cortisol levels higher than normal at night.  That means that my adrenal glands don't get a sufficient amount of rest to produce enough cortisol in the morning.  Which equates to a lower amount of energy for me throughout the day, and a higher amount of energy at night when I should be resting.

She has me on a regime of herbal supplements.  I take some in the morning when I wake up, and some after lunch to help support my adrenal glands more.  And, then I take one at bedtime to help me get better sleep.  This is supposed to return my schedule to normal and help me have more energy.  We'll see.  I just started the regime.  In the meantime, I'm so grateful my Kate has been such a big help to me.

Your Kate sounds like my Mm...Mm begs (literally!) to help me cook. She's getting really good at reading recipes and stirring slowly so the batter or whatever we're making doesn't slosh over the sides. Mm has *too* much energy for a mixing bowl! haha Anyway, that is AWESOME that you know what is causing the fatigue. I'm so glad to hear the issue isn't depression, but I can imagine that the up-and-down of energy has been frustrating just the same. I hope what you're doing works! We need all of that energy during the day for sure and when it's just not there, it's so hard to get much done. Thank heavens for some good children who are such willing helpers when mom literally can't do it.

Wow Marisa! Sounds like life has been a little difficult as of late. I'm glad that you're trying something, and I truly hope it works for you. I can't even imagine doing homeschool, or house work, or life without having the energy to do it! Wowsers! Your kiddos are wonderful, you've taught them all so well, and this story proves it. Keep us posted on your condition. I'll add you to my prayers!

Pink Day

Today I was sifting through all the clothing and pulling out clothes that were stained and torn, as well as clothing the children had outgrown. There was a huge pile of clothing to sort through, and an ever growing pile of clothes to donate.  At one point, I pulled out a pink t-shirt and asked, "Whose is this?" Someone said it was Maryanne's, which couldn't have been true because it was a size 8. It wasn't her color anyway ... So I tossed it in the donate pile. (In hind sight, I now think my mom gave it to Maryanne for Christmas, and she said that she wasn't sure what size to get for Maryanne. Whoops on my part.) That's when Adam exclaimed that he wanted a pink shirt. Other children chimed in with, "It is his color." (Referring to his Dressing Your Truth type.) Adam bolted toward the donate pile and seized the shirt, promptly pulling it over his head and the collared shirt he had on. (Later he removed the collared shirt, after much cajoling from ...

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

My Two Teenagers

As personalities come, these two girls are like night and day. Both are silly at times, and both can be serious at times. And yet, that rarely happens at the same time! We have entered the world of teenagers, and it is quite the dramatic world! My oldest daughter is dealing with all the drama that teenagers bring: ostracism, judging, and feeling friendless. My younger teenager is just full of fun dramatics: silly faces and expressions, acting wonky and crazy, and saying that "everyone is my friend, even their mom and dad!" At any rate, I couldn't be more in love with these two. They fight over their littlest sister ("I get to hold her!"  "You've been hogging her all day!"), fight over who spends more time in the shower ("I do NOT spend an hour in the shower!"), and fight over who gets my MacBook ("She always gets to do her school on your computer!"  "But, all my stuff is on there!").  My world would be quite dramatical...
