Happy Birthday: Maryanne

Sunday we celebrated Maryanne's birthday. We will be moving this coming weekend, and I wanted her to be able to have her gifts and play with them for more than just two days, so we celebrated her birthday Sunday. We will do something for Adam on his birthday, then the weekend after that we will have family members over to celebrate both Adam's and Maryanne's birthdays. So, she will still get a fancy cake (she only got a store bought cake this time, that wasn't fancy at all ... just one of those 10 slices of cake for $10 things).

She is such a special girl ... providing so much joy and laughter to our family. Sunday as she was unwrapping her presents I was filled with so much joy watching her. Each of her siblings (except Adam) made her a card, or a little gift. (That in itself brought me so much happiness and helped me to feel like I'm not a failure as a mother ... they truly love her and wanted to show her.)  And, even though those gifts weren't as big and exciting as the store-bought gifts, when she opened them she would exclaim, "Oh!" It was absolutely darling. And, then she would thank them. It's so hard to believe she is two-years-old today. I feel like she's been with us for years and years, and yet it hasn't seemed that long.

The only present she really
cared about.  After opening the
present with her own train
car in it, she didn't want to
open any other presents ...
and hasn't played with her
other presents at all this week.
Just her Toy Story Car.

Here are 10 facts about Maryanne (because she's too young to understand questions like, "What do you hope to accomplish this year?")

1. My favorite Annie sayings:
"Here you go Mama."
"I want to get down."
"Thank you, _______."  (Fill in the blank with a name.)

2. Jon's favorite Maryanne sayings:
Anything with an "ooo" at the end because she elongates the "oo".  ("Thank yooooou."  "Shoooooes.")
"Chips."

3. My favorite thing to do with my Annie:
I really love to do her hair ... she's so good and sits still for me.  I also really love to read books to her ... she's constantly echoing and copying the words of the book as I read them.  Tickling her is also a blast ... her giggle is so infectious.

4. Jon's favorite thing to do with Maryanne:
Wrestle and tickle because he loves her little laugh.

5. Maryanne's traits:
She's quick to respond and very polite (always saying please and thank you).
She's good at cleaning up, always singing the "clean up, clean up" song.

6. Maryanne's favorite song:
"I Am a Child of God."
She also likes to sing "Open, Shut Them", "Roll Your Hands", and "Popcorn Popping", and her one phrase from that Black Eyed Peas song, "Good, good night."

7. Things she knows:
The colors pink and blue.
She could sing full songs before she could say sentences.
She can count to five ... almost to ten.
When it's time to get her diaper changed.

8. Things she likes:
Mickey Mouse
Princesses
Trains
Dolls/babies
Dogs

9. Things she likes to do:
Play with the play dishes.
Unload the dishwasher.
Help cook/bake.
Push her baby in the stroller.
Watch "Timmy Time."
Play with the GeoTrax trains.

10. Reasons why we are grateful she is in our family:
Maryanne has given everyone someone to dote on.  And, she doesn't mind it one bit.  Although, I'm sure there are times when she wishes that people would just leave her alone.  Each day I watch her learn and grow and become a little girl more and more.  Jon said, "She's a little ray of sunshine even though she has shrieked like a Ring Wraith for a while."

Happy Birthday Maryanne!! That last quote from Jon explains our little Graham to a "T" as well! So funny!! Isn't it funny how a child can be so young in years and still feel like they've been around forever. It's so hard to remember life without them! Here's to many more years of growth little girl!!! :)

Pink Day

Today I was sifting through all the clothing and pulling out clothes that were stained and torn, as well as clothing the children had outgrown. There was a huge pile of clothing to sort through, and an ever growing pile of clothes to donate.  At one point, I pulled out a pink t-shirt and asked, "Whose is this?" Someone said it was Maryanne's, which couldn't have been true because it was a size 8. It wasn't her color anyway ... So I tossed it in the donate pile. (In hind sight, I now think my mom gave it to Maryanne for Christmas, and she said that she wasn't sure what size to get for Maryanne. Whoops on my part.) That's when Adam exclaimed that he wanted a pink shirt. Other children chimed in with, "It is his color." (Referring to his Dressing Your Truth type.) Adam bolted toward the donate pile and seized the shirt, promptly pulling it over his head and the collared shirt he had on. (Later he removed the collared shirt, after much cajoling from ...

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

My Two Teenagers

As personalities come, these two girls are like night and day. Both are silly at times, and both can be serious at times. And yet, that rarely happens at the same time! We have entered the world of teenagers, and it is quite the dramatic world! My oldest daughter is dealing with all the drama that teenagers bring: ostracism, judging, and feeling friendless. My younger teenager is just full of fun dramatics: silly faces and expressions, acting wonky and crazy, and saying that "everyone is my friend, even their mom and dad!" At any rate, I couldn't be more in love with these two. They fight over their littlest sister ("I get to hold her!"  "You've been hogging her all day!"), fight over who spends more time in the shower ("I do NOT spend an hour in the shower!"), and fight over who gets my MacBook ("She always gets to do her school on your computer!"  "But, all my stuff is on there!").  My world would be quite dramatical...
