Utah Trip

Last week we were able to go with Jon to Utah.  He had training for work in Salt Lake City, so we tagged along to visit family while he was in the office.  We had a blast, but it went by too quickly!  I wish I'd gotten more pictures, but that's usually how it goes ... I either take too many and wish I'd played more, or I didn't take enough and played too much!  Here are a few photos of our fun week:

We met my brother-in-law and his family downtown and let the children play in the fountains at the Gateway shopping center.  While we were standing there watching, I read a sign that said not to be in the fountains during the musical water show.  We considered that, and realized that everyone's children were in the fountains during the show; and what were we to do ... pull out our children when the guideline wasn't really being enforced?  So, we let them play.  And, they got completely soaked!

That night we went to dinner with Jon's brother and sister, then took the children to a park so they could play with their cousins and the siblings could talk.  It was a great evening to be together just laughing, joking, and talking.  Thanks, Adam, Jess and Sally for such a fantastic day/evening!

On one of the days when Jon was in the office, I drove north to visit a couple of my friends from high school, Lynette and Aubrey.  It was so much fun to see them at an awesome park in Riverdale.  We went for the splash pad, which was turned off after about an hour of playing, but had a blast just hanging out and watching our children play.  Afterward, we went to Aubrey's house for dinner and games.  I was introduced to "Ticket to Ride" and instantly fell in love with the game.  Thanks, girls for a great day!

On Friday, Jon's parents and another of his brothers with his wife came down.  We went into American Fork Canyon and had a picnic by the river, took a hike, tried to play lawn games, and just enjoyed being together in nature.  Afterward, we went to a park near my brother's house and played with water balloons and just spent some time talking and being together.

We also took the time to visit my grandma and play with her basket of wind-up toys.  And, we spent a day with my dad.  Maryanne had a blast "coloring" with her fingers on my dad's iPad.  Sometimes, her fingers weren't enough, so she had to use my dad's finger.  Silly girl.

My mom requested a picture of all of her grandchildren.  I took these as my sister was taking them as well.  I'm sure her pictures are much better ... the blessing of a more advanced photographer and camera.

On our last day, we took some time to go to the Lindon Aquatics Center.  It was actually pretty big.  All outdoors and a cross between a community swimming pool and a waterpark.  The girls and I loved the lazy river, Jon loved the Flow Rider (even though he didn't think it worth it to try since we would only be there a short time), the boys had a blast on the play area, and having the grassy area to lay on when we needed a break was awesome.  Definitely worth the $5/person.

It was a great week, and I'm so grateful to all of our family members and friends we were able to visit.  Here are some bullet points of things of which I didn't get pictures:

  • Visiting Jon's Aunt Marla

  • Dessert with my Grandparents Tanner

  • Playing Rock Band Green Day with my nephew

  • Playing Rock Band with my brother and sister-in-law

  • Playing Settlers of Catan more than once with: my sister (Anna), brother-in-law (Lonnie), nephews (Hunter, Braxton, and Chase), brother-in-law (Dan), sister-in-law (Ashley), sister-in-law (Aubrey), brother (Ryan)

  • Swimming in the hotel swimming pool

  • Eating dinner at my brother's church barbecue and playing on the huge inflatable slide

  • Visiting the Clark Planetarium with my brother-in-law and his family

Pink Day

Today I was sifting through all the clothing and pulling out clothes that were stained and torn, as well as clothing the children had outgrown. There was a huge pile of clothing to sort through, and an ever growing pile of clothes to donate.  At one point, I pulled out a pink t-shirt and asked, "Whose is this?" Someone said it was Maryanne's, which couldn't have been true because it was a size 8. It wasn't her color anyway ... So I tossed it in the donate pile. (In hind sight, I now think my mom gave it to Maryanne for Christmas, and she said that she wasn't sure what size to get for Maryanne. Whoops on my part.) That's when Adam exclaimed that he wanted a pink shirt. Other children chimed in with, "It is his color." (Referring to his Dressing Your Truth type.) Adam bolted toward the donate pile and seized the shirt, promptly pulling it over his head and the collared shirt he had on. (Later he removed the collared shirt, after much cajoling from ...

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

My Two Teenagers

As personalities come, these two girls are like night and day. Both are silly at times, and both can be serious at times. And yet, that rarely happens at the same time! We have entered the world of teenagers, and it is quite the dramatic world! My oldest daughter is dealing with all the drama that teenagers bring: ostracism, judging, and feeling friendless. My younger teenager is just full of fun dramatics: silly faces and expressions, acting wonky and crazy, and saying that "everyone is my friend, even their mom and dad!" At any rate, I couldn't be more in love with these two. They fight over their littlest sister ("I get to hold her!"  "You've been hogging her all day!"), fight over who spends more time in the shower ("I do NOT spend an hour in the shower!"), and fight over who gets my MacBook ("She always gets to do her school on your computer!"  "But, all my stuff is on there!").  My world would be quite dramatical...
