Sinusitis

Things I should have taken pictures of this past week, but failed to because sinusitis grabbed hold of my brain and gave it a good shake:

Adam as "Green Goo Guy" (a made-up costume for Halloween)
He took some scissors to his the front of his cape before I was finished sewing it. His cape was basically his costume since we didn't really have a character to base this costume on. Yeah. I'm pleased with the finished product ... after I figured out how to make it work.

Eliza making her tutu
Eliza chose to wear a poodle skirt for Halloween. I failed to get the poodle on her skirt because, of course, I procrastinated until the day before the trunk-or-treat to make her skirt. Also, another reason she didn't have a petticoat. So, she made herself a tutu following this tutorial. Turned out super cute.

Kate's fake vampire teeth
They glow in the dark. Oh, and they are too big for her mouth. So she used costume makeup and "painted" on some fangs. The best part was that all I had to do for her costume was her cape.

IndiAndrew Jones
He had a satchel and a whip and a hat. I even put bronzer on his cheeks and chin for his 5 o'clock shadow. Oh, and the whip .... it came out for Halloween, and was put away the next day. He hasn't had it since. Probably not the best idea for a little boy with a temper.

My new curtains
Now that we have finally finished painting our main floor, Jon took some time to hang the curtains we bought back in May. They look awesome! And, it's the first time I feel really pleased with what we've done.

Maryanne's teeth
She has a total of five teeth now. They are not pleasant at all! She doesn't bite me when she nurses anymore, but she bites anything that is made of fabric. Kind of strange/cute. She has two minky blankets that she adores and whenever I get her out of her crib, she inevitably pulls one of those out with her using her teeth. And, sometimes when we are wrestling, she will hunker down on my shoulder and pull my shirt away in her mouth. She's even left marks in my skin. Yeah, I think she likes those things.

My Halloween party
My friend and I hosted a Halloween party. It was a blast. We had around 14 couples there. And the costumes were great! Jon and I were M&Ms ... that's what we were 9 years ago. I did have a small red M for Maryanne somewhere that Eliza wore for her first Halloween, but I couldn't find it.

However, I have no pictures of the above. Oh well, at least I have the mental ones. Just wish they were as permanent.

I'm sorry you were so sick. That's no fun. I'm sure your kids looked great, even without pictures to prove it!!

Blogiversary

Today is my blogiversary! One year ago today I switched my blog over to Blogger. To celebrate, I want to do a little drawing for all my friends and family! I haven't yet decided what the winner will get ... I think it depends on who the winner is (I don't want to send a crayon roll to someone without children, or an apron to my brother, etc.). Rest assured though, that the winner will get something homemade from me, just as a little thank you for being my friend! So, start commenting ... and I'll send the total number of comments I receive by next Wednesday at 11:59 CST through random.org, then announce the winner next Thursday.

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

Finished Project Friday: Maryanne's Blessing Dress

(I know it's not really Friday, but I just finished this today and couldn't wait to show ya'll .) I finished Maryanne's blessing dress early! Well, what you would call early for me. When I made Andrew's blessing romper I was pounding in the snaps around the legs and on the back around 9:00 the Saturday night before he was blessed. So, to have Maryanne's dress done a week before her blessing is really good for me. This pattern was a challenge for me because the directions weren't very explicit, but after I did what I was supposed to they totally made sense. And, I forgot how to make button holes, so that was an adventure. This was the first time I've ever used lace on a project, and I'm really pleased with the outcome. You can't see it, but the slip has lace along the bottom edge, and I was supposed to put lace on the collar but opted it out and like it much better that way. I also made a little jacket or " saque " for her out of fla...
