Happy Anniversary, My Sweetheart

I saw this on my friend's blog and thought I just had to copy it for our 10th anniversary! (Yes, we have been married that long, can you believe it?!?)

What is your sweetheart's name? Jon

How long have you guys been married? 10 years today.

Where did you meet? In his apartment when we were both attending Ricks College. My roommates and I wanted to find a ride to Wendy's, and we went to Jon's apartment to see if anyone there could give us a ride. Jon and his roommate (an old buddy from his church mission) were sitting in the living room singing a song they were both familiar with from their missions to Chile.

What was your first thought when you met him? There is no way this guy has not been in a choir before. He sings really well.

Do you remember what he was wearing? Not exactly, but he was into his plaid flannel shirt and jeans stage at the time, so probably the red plaid shirt that Eliza currently uses for her art smock in school.

Where were you the first time you kissed? Um, is it terrible that I remember where we were when he asked and I said no; but, I don't remember the exact spot when we finally did kiss? I think we were outside my apartment and he was dropping me off right before curfew because I remember walking inside and either thinking or telling my roommates that I "owed" them a steak dinner. (Correct me if I'm wrong, Rivka, ... it was M&Ms for holding hands, and a steak dinner for kissing, right?)

Who kissed who first? I think it was pretty much mutual because he asked and I said yes.

Where did you go on your first date? To Homecoming at Ricks.

How long did you know each other before you became a couple? We knew each other probably for 6-7 weeks.

How did he ask you out? When he took me on our first date he had his roommate change my screen saver on my computer to scroll through, "Would you like to go to Homecoming with me? My name is under your pillow." Except, it was in Spanish. So, I had to print it off and take it to my Spanish class to decipher what the last word (almuhada) was in English.

How old is he? 31

Who can sing best? Jon sings solo better than I, and I sing in a group better than Jon.

Who is smarter? Hands down, it's Jon.

Who does laundry? I pretty much do the laundry ... unless I get lazy and then Jon pitches in. He does iron his own shirts though.

Who pays the bills? Jon does.

Who mows the lawn? Whoever gets to it. Mostly Jon does; although, sometimes I'll do it if he's super busy during the week.

Who cooks dinner? I do; but, Jon will if I need him to.

Who is the first to admit when they are wrong? We're both pretty stubborn ... but, usually I think it's Jon.

When did you realize you really liked this person? Um, I don't really remember because it happened so gradually. I do know for sure that about three weeks after our first date I was head over heels.

Some memorable times from each year of our marriage:
99-00 1. Bad and loud karaoke sifting up to our apartment from our downstairs neighbors in student housing.
00-01 2. Taking our marriage class at the Uof U Institute.
01-02 3. Visiting Arches National Park and Moab.
02-03 4. Graduation for you, moving twice, and buying our townhome.
03-04 5. Planting our first garden together.
04-05 6. Experiencing our first tornado-like storms, and driving through them on Mother's Day.
05-06 7. Performing the Families of Faith production.
06-07 8. Being apart for a week in August before Jon joined us in Utah.
07-08 9. Going to my first Wild's game.
08-09 10. Playing in the stream just inside American Fork Canyon, going to the State Fair and the Renaissance Fair.

Love you, Sweetheart! The last ten years have been very eventful, but I'm glad I got to do it all with you! And, whatever you do, you better not make me a millionaire!!!!!

Happy Tenth. I can't believe he asked you for permission. I was to scared to do that so Erin had to make the first move. I know, I'm pathetic. ;)

Pink Day

Today I was sifting through all the clothing and pulling out clothes that were stained and torn, as well as clothing the children had outgrown. There was a huge pile of clothing to sort through, and an ever growing pile of clothes to donate.  At one point, I pulled out a pink t-shirt and asked, "Whose is this?" Someone said it was Maryanne's, which couldn't have been true because it was a size 8. It wasn't her color anyway ... So I tossed it in the donate pile. (In hind sight, I now think my mom gave it to Maryanne for Christmas, and she said that she wasn't sure what size to get for Maryanne. Whoops on my part.) That's when Adam exclaimed that he wanted a pink shirt. Other children chimed in with, "It is his color." (Referring to his Dressing Your Truth type.) Adam bolted toward the donate pile and seized the shirt, promptly pulling it over his head and the collared shirt he had on. (Later he removed the collared shirt, after much cajoling from ...

85+ Books!

It's been almost a year since I started keeping track of all the books I've read.  When it's all in a list ... by date ... it really makes me realize how much I read!  I burned through almost a book a day in the month of January: 24 books total ... the greatest number of books in one month!  After compiling the list, I figured I may as well share it with all my friends!  I've organized them by genre/topic ... and now I realize I need to branch out more!  Books I read multiple times this year have asterisks. REGENCY/HISTORICAL ROMANCE The Apothecary's Daughter, Julie Klassen Edenbrooke*, Julianne Donaldson The Girl in the Gatehouse, Julie Klassen The Heiress of Winterwood, Sarah Ladd The Maid of Fairbourne Hall, Juie Klassen Lady of Milkweed Manor, Julie Klassen Short Straw Bride, Karen Witemeyer The Silent Governess, Julie Klassen The Tutor's Daughter, Julie Klassen CLEAN ROMANCE Bah, Humbug!, Heather Horrocks The Cubicle Next Door*, Siri L....

My Two Teenagers

As personalities come, these two girls are like night and day. Both are silly at times, and both can be serious at times. And yet, that rarely happens at the same time! We have entered the world of teenagers, and it is quite the dramatic world! My oldest daughter is dealing with all the drama that teenagers bring: ostracism, judging, and feeling friendless. My younger teenager is just full of fun dramatics: silly faces and expressions, acting wonky and crazy, and saying that "everyone is my friend, even their mom and dad!" At any rate, I couldn't be more in love with these two. They fight over their littlest sister ("I get to hold her!"  "You've been hogging her all day!"), fight over who spends more time in the shower ("I do NOT spend an hour in the shower!"), and fight over who gets my MacBook ("She always gets to do her school on your computer!"  "But, all my stuff is on there!").  My world would be quite dramatical...
